The profile of a graduate of the bachelor’s study program religious education teaching (first degree) includes the knowledge, skills and competencies that are defined in the description of the study field 38. teaching and pedagogical sciences, as well as the knowledge and skills that relate to the core of the study field 37. theology (Catholic).
Theoretical knowledge
- knows the history of Christian thought and culture and is able to evaluate and critically assess the significance of Christianity for European culture,
- is able to describe and reflect on historical transformations of theories of Christian education with regard to general human history; knows the basic thinkers and disseminators of the idea of Christian education in history,
- is familiar with current theories about education as a turn towards goodness, truth and beauty and is familiar with the range of pedagogical methods (paths) that can be applied in teaching with regard to the goals and participants of religious education,
- has knowledge of the content of individual books of the Bible, understands the historical process of the creation of the Old and New Testament biblical books and can describe the method of selecting canonical books by the early Church,
- understands the motives of free choice and distinguishes between the concept of freedom as arbitrariness and freedom as personal responsibility,
- is aware of the importance of conscience in the issue of axiologizing the student’s person and knows the methods of developing conscience,
- is familiar with the basic concepts of systematic theology.
Practical skills and abilities
- can formulate a problem and describe its causes, identifies and distinguishes different ways of knowing,
- can implement the principles of critical thinking into the educational process and formulate own arguments in favor of the truth,
- asks, systematically reflects and deepens great human questions (the question of happiness, friendship, love, fear, suffering, death, etc.),
- connects rational search and Christian faith when reflecting on students‘ existential questions,
- reads and interprets biblical texts with the help of selected methods of biblical analysis and can distinguish the biblical language of images, symbols and gestures from the language of facts and norms,
- applies knowledge of systematic theology to the context of religious education,
- takes into account the developmental characteristics of the student, as well as his/her specific needs,
- searches for and processes relevant information sources,
- can work independently with professional literature and various information sources,
- uses digital technologies and has experience with online teaching.
Additional knowledge, abilities and skills
- can directly cooperate with the teacher in the classroom and with the school’s teaching staff,
- can facilitate the student’s adaptation to the school environment and facilitate overcoming barriers resulting from his/her possible social disadvantage,
- co-organizes the student’s activities during the educational process in accordance with the teacher’s instructions,
- is able to carry out pedagogical supervision during the teacher’s absence and downtime in the educational process,
- can handle escorting students, accompanying students to and from elementary school,
- actively cooperates in preparing teaching aids for extracurricular activities,
- communicates with the student’s parents (legal representatives) about the educational process.
Graduate employment
A graduate of the Bachelor’s degree program is qualified, based on the completed pedagogical-psychological and social-scientific foundation, to work in education and other educational institutions, e.g. in the position of pedagogical assistant or educator.
Bachelor’s studies are also preparation for the subsequent Master’s degree and for obtaining qualifications to practice the profession of teacher in primary and secondary schools.
In addition, graduates can also work in positions of animators, parish assistants, in leisure centers, catechetical centers and institutions dedicated to the upbringing and education of children and youth.
